Why Choose Zavala Elementary?

As an Apple Distinguished School, Zavala Elementary leads the way in educational technology and digital citizenship. The school was the first in the district to launch a student-produced weekly newscast, ZOWN (Zavala Owls Weekly Newscast), where fourth graders write scripts and highlight campus events. The campus offers JR FLL Robotics for third graders and FLL Robotics for fourth and fifth graders, teaching students to code and problem-solve. Additional programs include Student Council, UIL academic teams, Recycling Club, Safety Patrol, Kids of Character Club, and a Yearbook Media Club. Zavala Owls take immense pride in their motto: 'The Best School in the Universe.' This spirit shines through many achievements, including recognition as a Common Sense Media Certified school for Digital Citizenship. Campus History

Zavala Elementary honors Lorenzo de Zavala (1788-1836), the first Vice President of the Republic of Texas and a passionate advocate for democratic ideals. Carrying forward his legacy of innovation, Zavala Elementary has evolved into a beacon of educational technology. In 2014, the school was selected as one of only 114 schools nationwide to receive Apple's prestigious ConnectED grant. This transformed the campus into a cutting-edge learning environment with 1:1 iPad access, earning it recognition as an Apple Distinguished School and positioning it as a pioneer in digital education.
