Vernon Middle School World Languages Academy, originally built as Harlingen High School in 1929, transformed in 2019-2020 into a premier world languages program. It's an IB World School offering the Middle Years Programme with instruction in Spanish, French, Mandarin Chinese, and ASL.

Dr. Arely R. Tamez
Ed.D. from The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, TASSP Region One Middle School Principal of the Year
Dr. Tamez is beginning her third year as the campus principal at Vernon Middle School World Languages Academy. She has worked in education for 19 years, serving as Social Studies Teacher, Assistant Principal, and Coordinator of Federal Programs. She holds an Ed.D. from The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.
