As a Fine Arts Academy, Means provides students with specialized opportunities in dance, music, visual arts, and theater. The campus integrates arts education across the curriculum, allowing students to explore their creative talents while maintaining rigorous academic standards. The school has produced theatrical performances such as Disney's The Little Mermaid Jr. at the HCISD Performing Arts Center in partnership with Gutierrez Middle School of Arts & Sciences. The campus is a National Capturing Kids Hearts Showcase School and maintains a Dual Language program for bilingual education. Lee H. Means Fine Arts Academy earned an 'A' rating from the Texas Education Agency for the 2024-2025 school year, achieving 'A' grades in all three domains: Student Achievement, School Progress, and Closing the Gaps. The campus serves approximately 730 students with a 93.97% attendance rate. With 12 student clubs and organizations and a 1:1 device-to-student ratio, the school offers personalized learning opportunities. Teachers average 14.5 years of experience, exceeding both district and state averages. Campus History
Named after Mrs. Lee H. Means (1927-2013), an extraordinary educator whose career spanned nearly 50 years, this campus honors a leader who served as a teacher, principal, and the first female member of the Harlingen Rotary Club. The school was established in 2008 as a specialized fine arts magnet campus within HCISD. Following her passing in 2013, the academy continues to preserve her legacy of educational excellence, community service, and dedication to the arts.
