Campus History
Named after Mirabeau B. Lamar (1798-1859), the second President of the Republic of Texas and 'Father of Texas Education,' this campus honors his vision of public schools. Lamar Elementary was built in 1955. Through the years, the campus has undergone significant transformations, including a 1993 expansion by Scoggins Construction that added the media center and teacher lounge. In 1998, a major renovation created the current front entrance, enclosed the walkways, and upgraded the cafeteria and stage to better serve the student body.
