Why Choose Lamar Elementary?

Lamar Elementary operates as a Dual Language Academy, offering an immersive bilingual education program. The campus has a strong tradition of academic excellence, having earned multiple TEA recognitions including Exemplary Campus status in 2009-2010 with Gold Performance in Reading and Math. The school features 9 student clubs and organizations, after-school programs including ACE and Boys & Girls Club, and maintains a 1:1 Chromebook to student ratio. The Lamar Eagles soar high with school colors of Blue and Gold. Campus traditions include the Character Parade, Veteran's Day Assembly, Shoebox Parade, Nine Week Awards Assemblies, Earth Day Celebration, and Field Day. The school's robotics team, the Robostormers, won the HCISD FLL Robotics Championship in 2021, and students have demonstrated community leadership through initiatives like donating over 250 toys and raising $1,350 for wildlife through their recycling club.

Campus History

Named after Mirabeau B. Lamar (1798-1859), the second President of the Republic of Texas and 'Father of Texas Education,' this campus honors his vision of public schools. Lamar Elementary was built in 1955. Through the years, the campus has undergone significant transformations, including a 1993 expansion by Scoggins Construction that added the media center and teacher lounge. In 1998, a major renovation created the current front entrance, enclosed the walkways, and upgraded the cafeteria and stage to better serve the student body.
