Campus History
Harlingen High School South embodies 'Hawk Pride' as the second comprehensive high school in Harlingen CISD. The campus roots trace back to 1986 when it opened as Alamo Junior High School. In 1993, the facility was transformed into a four-year high school named Harlingen South to meet the city's growing needs. The school name, mascot, colors, and Alma Mater were selected by special committees, and by 2002, it had grown to become the largest 4A high school in Texas. In 2013, the campus transitioned to serving grades 10-12 following the opening of Dr. Cano Freshman Academy.
