The academy's motto, 'Discover Your Passion!', reflects its innovative approach to freshman education. Students choose from five Schools of Choice: Business, Education, Health Sciences, Liberal Arts, and STEM, allowing them to explore career interests through Project Based Learning. The campus offers Advanced Academics including Dual Credit, Pre-AP, and AP courses. With a 1:1 device-to-student ratio supporting digital learning and 11 student clubs and organizations, Cano provides comprehensive opportunities for academic and personal growth. The Ravens soar with pride in navy blue and gold, representing excellence in academics and character. In 2025, the campus received the prestigious CREST Award recognizing excellence in school counseling. With approximately 1,047 students and a 90.45% attendance rate, Cano Freshman Academy maintains an active presence in the community through social media, boasting over 5,500 Facebook followers and nearly 1,800 Instagram followers who celebrate Raven achievements daily.

Campus History
Dr. Abraham P. Cano Freshman Academy honors the memory of a beloved Harlingen native and family-practice physician who dedicated his life to serving the community. Dr. Cano was known as a true public servant who believed no student should be left behind. With its school colors approved by the HCISD Board in November 2012 and officially named in January 2013, the academy opened its doors in August 2013 with over 1,250 students. It established itself as a dedicated 9th-grade campus designed to help freshmen successfully transition to high school, serving all first-time ninth graders in Harlingen CISD before they feed into Harlingen High School or Harlingen High School South.
